Mojstrana is a clustered settlement lying at the point where Dolina joins a lateral valley called Vrata. The origin and development of the settlement lay in ironworking: iron ore began to be excavated and smelted nearby in the late 14th century. The place has had a long connection with mountaineering. The first mountain guide service was founded in 1800. The arrival of mayor Jakob Aljaž in Dovje gave a new impetus to the construction of mountain paths and mountain huts in the Triglav mountain chain. Hunting and farm tourism began to develop after 1900. In this period almost every farm began letting rooms to tourists.
