in the countryside
Kog is a typical landscape of the Slovenske gorice Hills on the northeastern part of Slovenia. It comprises of six villages: Gomila, Kog, Lačaves, Jastrebci, Vitan and Vodranci.  The local people are mainly engaged in wine growing, farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding. A sprawling and typical wine growing settlement stands on two ridges, on 230 and 325 metres above sea level. Kog has a distinctively Pannonian character with a low quantity of rainfall, the winters are cold, the summers hot and dry. One of its characteristics is also a large number of stormy days. On 30th January 1841, Božidar Flegerič was born in Vodranci. His poetic legacy comprises of poems with national awakening thematic, songs describing farm work and events from rural life, and songs which originated from special occasions such as name days and similar.
In Jastrebci stands the house of a national hero Jože Kerenčič (1913–1941), however, the monument dedicated to him is located in the Primary School Kog. In the park near the school is also a monument dedicated to couriers TV 15 S. At the parish there is a stream which marks the only path for the disabled in Europe. At each stop the travellers can be refreshed by spring water from genuine old wells. The Church of St. Bolfenk was set in the area of former vast forests as the protector of foresters.  The church has an early Baroque ground plan.
A local tourist guide of Ormož municipality will be glad to take you along the wine roads and show you the attractions of Ormož municipality (see the list of local guides).
