In the Slovenian countryside and the margins of towns there are numerous finely preserved manor houses, the former residences of feudal lords, which differ from the castles in having no fortification. The highest number of manor houses in Slovenia date from the
Baroque period. In addition to their well appointed interiors, the manor houses have fine surrounding
gardens or
parks.
Štatenberg is regarded as one of the most beautiful of Slovenia’s manor houses. The manors of
Betnava and
Strmol are also worth a visit. Several manor houses have been converted into museums and galleries, and they are very popular for weddings and celebrations.
