Get to know “Slovenian Istria & Croatia” on a 9-day tour. This bike tour will take you through all the cultural and natural sites of the Istrian peninsula, both Slovenian and Croatian. The tour is suitable for cyclist with an average physical condition and with more free time.

Day 1: Arrival at the airport – POSTOJNA
Welcome reception at the hotel in Postojna. Our representative will explain everything about the route and will prepare the bicycles. Then you can visit the Postojna Cave, which is the second longest cave open to public with more than 20km of galleries. The visit of the cave takes approximately 2 hours. One of the most famous attractions in the cave is the human fish, which lives only in the karst waters and is blind.
Day 2: POSTOJNA – ŠTANJEL (45km)
Breakfast. The first cycling day will start with a detour to the famous Predjama Castle, which is constructed in a rock. The castle is located on a spectacular location of a 123m cliff. According to a popular legend the famous baron Erazem Lueguer died violently in the castle. This legend is deeply imprinted in the Slovenian folklore. This hero-thief in the style of Robin Hood attacked the caravans of merchants on the important route connecting Vienna and Trieste. There is a restaurant in the castle where you can eat and feel like a medieval knight. Then the route will take us to Štanjel, a picturesque karst village. It is organized in a form of terraces toward the peak of the hill Turna, 363m of height. The characteristics of the town are narrow streets with stone houses that contain various elements of stonework.
Day 3: ŠTANJEL – LIPICA – DIVAČA (47km)
The today’s terrain is predominantly inclined, only a slight rise.
First stop is at the botanical gardens in Sežana. Then the route continues to the famous stables of Lipica, one of the world famous Lipizzaner horses, a tradition of several centuries. The Lipizzaner excite lovers of classical riding that is governed by the principles of the Spanish horseback riding school of Vienna, including sports training and carriage rides. The Lipizzaner event and the guided tour will impress you.
Day 4: DIVAČA - PORTOROŽ (60km)
A long descent from the karst plateau to the Adriatic Sea. The route continues from Koper, the capital of Slovenian Istria, to Portorož. While cycling along the coast you can admire the Venetian architecture that is especially beautiful in the picturesque town of Piran. Accommodation in Portorož.
Day 5: PORTOROŽ – OPRTALJ (45km)
After breakfast we leave Portorož, passing the saltpans and the Slovenian-Croatian border. A climb to Kaštel. After an 18km ascent we arrive to village Oprtalj where we will overnight. We suggest you have dinner in one of the farmhouses where they serve only homemade food (you have to try their typical pasta “fuži” with truffles).
Day 6: OPRTALJ – MOTOVUN – GROŽNJAN - BERTONIGLA - NOVIGRAD (60km)
A long descent from Oprtalj to Livade – you can decide to take the short route along the river Mirna or up to Motovun (300m ascent), a beautiful Istrian village. From Grožnjan you bike through small villages, such as Bertonigla, Krasica, Daila and in the afternoon we arrive to Novigrad.
Day 7: NOVIGRAD – POREČ - VRSAR (55km)
Brekfast and departure from Novigrad. Cycling along the Istrian coast to the roman city Poreč. After the visit you can continue towards Vrsar. There we recommend you to visit one of the delicious fish restaurants.
Day 8: VRSAR - ROVINJ (30km)
From Vrsar we take a ride along the Lim fjord, which is the only fjord on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. We reach another picturesque Venetian town Rovinj. After the visit of the city you can end your route here or continue to Bale and Fažana.
Day 9: ROVINJ – BALE - FAŽANA (40km)
From Rovinj we take a slight ascent to Bale and then descent to Fažana. There are boats every hour that take you from Fažana to Brioni National Park. If you want to see the residence of the former dictator of Yugoslavia you can visit it this day.
Day 10: End of the trip
