The Turkish cave

Print Add to travel planner
The cave, located just below the main peak of Vetrni vrh (Windy Peak), has not been scientifically explored yet. The entrance shaft is only a meter wide and half a metre high. After a couple of metres the shaft then turns upwards and finally opens into a 5 m x 2,5 m kidney-shaped cave with stalactites. The cave that now provides home to large numbers of grasshoppers and some bats used to be an important point of refuge for the locals in the era of Turkish incursions – hence the name Turkish cave. As there is no marked path leading directly to the cave that is also unmarked, hiring a local guide is a prerequisite for visiting it. Basic mountaineering equipment is also required due to the rugged terrain with secluded rock formations and even a nature-made window. Find out more about Radece at
