In Slovenia you are unlikely to find yourself without a mobile signal, although it is still possible in some remote corners of the country. The two most developed mobile networks are those of Mobitel and Simobil. These are also Slovenia's largest mobile operators.

As in other European countries, GSM mobile phones operate in the 900 MHz or 1800 MHz frequency bands.

Because Slovenia is a member of the EU, roaming charges within EU countries are capped.

Maximum price of calls within the European Union (with VAT)

Outgoing call to EU countries €0.29/min
Calls received from other EU country €0.08/min
Sending a text message (SMS) €0.09/SMS
Receiving a text message (SMS) free
Packet data transfer €0.7/MB

Operators are free to offer cheaper rates. Operators charge various rates for calls outside the EU. Check these with your own operator.

Buying a SIM card or prepaid telephone

If your mobile operator in your own country charges a high rate for calls to and from Slovenia and you are planning to call numbers in Slovenia, it is worth thinking about purchasing a Slovenian SIM card or even a prepaid telephone. There is a wide range on offer. You can buy a SIM card or prepaid telephone for as little as €10.
