Beekeeping in Slovenia boasts several centuries of world-renowned tradition. The most comprehensive presentation of this tradition takes place in the Museum of Apiculture, which is located on the first floor of

The Museum of Apiculture opened in 1959 and is unique in Slovenia and Europe in terms of its contents and coverage. It boasts the largest exhibited collection of painted beehive panels, which are a curiosity from the world of Slovene folk art. Among other things, visitors can also take time out to admire the oldest preserved panel which dates back to 1758. The museum also features an observation beehive with live bees.
A visit to the Museum of Apiculture can be concluded with a documentary – in Slovene and English – on the Carniolan honey bee, which is autochthonous in Slovenia.
The collection is presented in Slovene, English, German and Italian. Upon prior request, guided visits in Slovene, German and English can be arranged for organised groups.
