Škocjan Caves are the most important underground phenomenon in the Karst region and Slovenia are among the most important caves in the world. Due to their exceptional significance, the Škocjan Caves were entered on UNESCO’s list of natural and cultural world heritage sites in 1986.

International scientific circles have thus acknowledged the importance of the Caves as one of the natural treasures of planet Earth.Underground canyon of the river is so far the largest known underground canyon in the world.
Škocjan caves are very branched system of cave passages that are long 6.2 km, depth to the lowest point is 223 m. The exceptional character
of the caves is mainly in its dimensions, which visitors do not let indifferent. The enormous underground spaces to achieve the maximum dimension in Martelovi Hall, which reached 146 m height and a width of 120 m! There ends 2600 m long underground river canyon. Colorful mix of collapse dolines, river canyons and sink are examples of outstanding natural beauty
and have great aesthetic importance. Velika and Mala dolina charm every visitor with its impressive depth of 163 meters and a large diversity of flora and fauna.
Feature of the caves are extremely diverse stalactite forms
including limestone pools, and larger stalactites in the Great Hall, whith Giant stalagmites.
Archaeological surveys show that a man living in caves and their surrounding areas since ancient times - from the Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Age through antiquity and the Middle Ages to today, there are already more than 5000 years.
Guided tours take place every day throughout the year. Tour takes about 1h 45 minutes.
