The castle's printing works
The estate of Bled was managed in the name of the Brixen diocese by ministerials, caretakers and castle staff according to feudal law. Later, the Brixen bishops leased their land out, and one of the leaseholders became Herbard Auersperg of Turjak, a hero from fights with the Turks. During his lease period, the castle was a strong base of Protestantism, where
Primož Trubar also stopped in June 1561. Primož Trubar is the author of the first two Slovenian books, Catechismus and Abecedarium, both printed in 1550 in Tübingen. Book printing was demanding and accurate work.
The castle’s printing works contains a
reconstruction of Gutenberg's wooden printing press, where a master printer demonstrates printing on hand-made paper with historic blocks and lead letters. If you would like an experience to remember, you may become a real castle printer, and after some hard work you will appreciate the black art of those times.
