Each year, the Summer in Ljubljana Old Town festival contributes to the vibrancy of city life in Ljubljana by presenting a programme of classical music concerts held in the picturesque surroundings of the old city centre. Most of the concerts are free. 

The festival begins in June and is held until the end of August, when it traditionally concludes with an event entitled Night in Ljubljana Old Town.

Nights in Ljubljana Old Town, a mini festival closing the Summer in Ljubljana Old Town festival and symbolically concluding Ljubljana’s summer event season, traditionally feature outdoor concerts accompanied by a diverse mixture of other cultural and entertainment events taking place in the streets and squares of the old part of the city centre.

Rock Otočec, the best-known open-air rock festival held in Slovenia, has changed its venue. This year, for the first time in its history, it will be held in Ljubljana. Its three-day line-up, headed by the Canadian pop punk band Billy Talent and the American nu metal band Papa Roach, will feature a large number of Slovenian and international artists.

Rock Otočec, modelled on the world's most popular summer rock festivals, combines the fun of rock music with the pleasures of camping. The first edition of the festival took place in 1976. Since 1997, when it began to be held annually at different venues, Rock Otočec has grown into Slovenia's largest event of its kind.

This year's festival venue, the Ljubljana Resort, extends over an area of six hectares of land by the river Sava on the northern outskirts of Ljubljana. It offers accommodation at a well-kept campsite and recreational opportunities at the Laguna Ljubljana City Beach swimming pool complex.

The Ljubljana Fanfare Trumpeters will perform on the Town Hall balcony on Saturday mornings throughout the summer, reviving the tradition of ceremonial fanfares typical of Ljubljana.

Their performances will have the same function as cannon firing, bell ringing or clock tower chiming in other cities.

Ljubljana's original 16th century fanfare trumpeters were musicians who came to Ljubljana from Graz on the invitation of the then mayor of Ljubljana. Playing a fanfare, they announced to the people of Ljubljana the town gate opening and closing times. They also performed on other occasions, such as official functions, imperial visits, and visits from other notables.

Every Sunday local brass bands will be giving promenade concerts on the streets of the Ljubljana old city centre.

The event will be cancelled in case of bad weather.

France Marolt Academic Folklore Group of the University of Ljubljana Student Organization is one of the leading Slovenian folklore groups.

It was established in 1948 by the ethno-musicologist France Marolt, who was at the time the head of the Institute for the Ethnography of Music. The group performs traditional dances from all the regions populated by Slovenians.

Max and Moritz, a ballet production for children choreographed, to enthusiastic critical acclaim, by the German choreographer Torsten Händler, is based on Wilhelm Busch's story Max and Moritz, published in 1865. Max and Moritz (Picko and Packo in the Slovenian translation) are a couple of mischievous boys whose pranks and foolery lead the audience through the colourful and playful world of childhood and growing up.

The Kazina Dance Group, part of the renowned Kazina Dance School, will showcase their work in a series of dance pieces.

Carrying on the tradition of social dancing in Ljubljana's famous Kazina building, the Kazina Dance School has for decades been playing a significant role in the social and cultural life, education and sports in Ljubljana. Over the last few years the dancers of the Kazina Dance Group have won several world and European dance championship titles.
